The Basic Concept of Karma

What is Karma? Karma is the Sanskrit word for action. When we think, speak or act we initiate a force that will react accordingly. This returning force maybe modified, changed or suspended, but most people will not be able eradicate it. This the basic meaning. I’m not going to give you a religious outlook on Karma. I’ll give you a different explanation of my own

All of us are surrounded by a sphere of energy. You may have heard or read the statement:

“Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed”

There is constant transfer of energy happening around us. For example Imagine someone telling you that your favorite team or your country will loose badly, that too when your team is Playing against your arch-rival. When someone is constantly expressing negatively to every little things around him don’t you feel negative? You feel irritated because of the constant negativity the person is transferring to you. Now similarly, Imagine your playing with a small kid after a hectic day at work, he can’t even talk properly but playing with him makes you happy. There is positive energy all around. It takes away all your tiredness and frustrations of the day. The point I’m trying to make is that when you choose to contribute positively and are trying to expose yourself to positive energy as much as you can, your going to be happy. Now I’m not saying that you can be positive all the time or you should start living like a saint. You can’t be happy or sad all the time. But yes, if you get into sadness and you hold on to it then your going to remain sad all the time. Change is the only constant thing happening in the universe.

Karma is not a judge which rewards or punishes you. The way your experiencing life is your own doing. Its your own Karma. If you don’t like the way you are, do the right karma. To gain happiness, give happiness. If you want people to smile at you, You learn to smile at them first! You usually get from people what you give to them. Simple isn’t it?

Now having done all of the above, does not mean that nothing bad will ever happen to you. The darker side of Karma is victim blaming. If the world is fundamentally just and something bad happens to people, they must have done something to deserve it. This is what most people think. I hate people who think Karma removes personal responsibility for injustice. People see something bad happening. Instead of standing up and doing something about it, they tell themselves, “Well Karma will do the justice”; and walk away. These are mostly the same people on Social media who write Karma is a beeech, karma is a witch and I don’t know what other things just to create a fancy bio to impress God knows who. Many of them have a faulty belief or literally know nothing about it.

Karma is not a judge to throw justice on each one of you. Today, Many People believe in Karma because they want to feel safe. Because nothing bad ever happens to good people, I’m good, nothing bad will happen to me. And in order to preserve this false sense of security, they’re willing to let “karma” handle injustice, and blame the victims for their suffering. I completely reject this notion for it is a faulty understanding of Karma according to me. Simple as that! I hope I have categorically expressed myself on my opinion? I may be wrong but this is my basic understanding of karma.

Thanks for being here and taking the time to read 😊

  1. I believe that if you put positive energy into the world, the world will bring you positive energy in return. On the other hand, if all you want to do is spread negativity and find a sick thrill of hurting others, the universe will punish you with unfortunate consequences. I’ve never heard somebody say it from your perspective so it is a different way to look at it. I’ve always related to it on a spiritual level. I’m a pretty spiritual person when it comes to karma. Thanks for putting it in a different perspective and making me see it a different way. I enjoyed reading 💙

  2. Thank you for sharing this. I completely agree with your perspective on karma. It is so frustrating when I see people interpret it as some magical form of universal reward for good deeds and punishment for bad deeds, when that doesn’t appear to be the case at all.

  3. I think it’s wonderful how you express yourself! I study in a spiritual path with John-Roger, based on the love of the spiritual heart. That is the foundation to life. It’s really beautiful, I have come home inside of me. 🙂 Thanks for your post! Blessings, Debbie

  4. Hola Shoumik, Thank you for your explanation of Karma. I am a mature woman, and have found over the years.that, broadly speakIng…the way we behave reflects on the way we are usually treated. I was brought up to be respectful and helpful (though no Mother Theresa…) but helping brings its own reward. I also try to imagine myself in less fortunate’s shoes…Everyone has a different story to tell. Life is full of shades of grey….Positivity is the way to go! .

    • Yes! I think we cannot stay positive all the time but we should try to as much as we can. We should stop whining about every little hurdle we face in life. Rather taking it in a positive way and spreading positivity by our actions can bring a change in people as well as in our ownselves.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my blog and sharing your valuable opinion with me dear ma’am. Thanks a lot! 😊❤

    • The way you were raised brings positive effects to your heart though the resistance to your positive and respectful upbringing has to endure in a less honorable environment. However, Goodness will prevail. I appreciate your comment and kind regards

  5. Thank you for sharing! What you say is so true and I have never considered the way you suggest of looking at Karma – but of course you are correct. WE are in control!
We try to surround ourselves with positivity (and four beautiful doggies!) and you are so right, they make us feel so good at the end of the day, as well as at the start and the middle!
Thank you for dropping by on my blog. I really appreciate it. xx

  6. Hello Shoumik,

Thank you for following my blog and that brought me here.

You have a refreshing perspective – and a welcomed one, if I might add – on karma and the part we play. And you are so very right – all of everything is energy.

I look forward to more posts from you.

    Thank you,
    Eric

  7. “Instead of standing up and doing something about it, they tell themselves, “Well Karma will do the justice”; and walk away.”

One might consider this type of response as bad karma for themselves if they walk away instead of doing the right thing. Standing up and doing something about an injustice is a proper response and good karma for the person doing the action.

  8. I believe in the Law of Attraction, so this all makes sense to me. Everything we do whether its good or bad will come back to us like a boomerang. We attract what we send out, whether thats words, thoughts or actions. There is a book called ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne which sums it all up beautifully. Of course there are other works out there such as the ‘Emerald Tablet’ and ‘A Course in Miracles’ to name a couple which go some way to explaining the Laws of the Universe. Anyway, thank you for sharing your insights. They make fascinating reading and are truly engaging.

    • The book “The Secret” is based on a pseudo-scientific theory called the “law of attraction” – the principle that “like attracts like.” Specifically, Byrne focuses on the idea that your dreams do in fact come true – thinking about money and wealth will attract these very things, causing them to manifest in your life. The law of attraction is always at work. If you think you have no control over your destiny, then you will attract situations that render you helpless. The trick, she says, is to tell the Universe you have control over your life. Lovely work indeed!
Thanks a lot for your comment!😊
